MicroQI: Fast, Practical Quality Improvement
About This Activity
Osteopathic obstetricians and gynecologists improve care continuously through small practice changes they never document. Conventional quality improvement (QI) offerings ask for an extended project, a written portfolio, and coaching. Physicians in solo and small-group practice start these and abandon them. A 2025 ACOOG member survey found respondents describing QI projects as burdensome, time consuming, and paperwork-heavy, with one in five reporting they make improvements in their clinic without ever applying a QI framework.
MicroQI closes that gap. It compresses a full Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle into three touch points across a window the participant sets, typically one to eight weeks. The physician selects the practice problem, states a measurable aim, records a baseline, tests one change, and reports the result. ACOOG verifies completion, awards credit, and returns a formal project record suitable for Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) Component 4 documentation.
The pathway runs on automation. No login or portal account is required. The system emails the participant when input is needed, so the work stays in the practice rather than in a binder,
Disclosures
ACOOG requires each planner and author to identify all financial relationships with ineligible companies and mitigates risk of bias using a series of strategies for relevant relationships. Learning Objectives
Those participating in this activity will receive information that should allow them to:
- State a measurable improvement aim tied to a specific gap in their own practice.
- Select a performance metric appropriate to the chosen aim and record a baseline value.
- Test one change across a defined period using the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle.
- Report and interpret the post-intervention measure against the stated aim.
- Determine whether to adopt, adapt, or discontinue the tested change in routine practice.
Accreditation and Credit Designation
The accreditation statements cannot be condensed, combined, or altered except for type of activity and credit hours.
CME Accreditation

Format and System Requirements
This is an interactive performance improvement activity carried out in the participant’s own practice setting. Participation runs through three online forms with automated email prompts between them. No login or portal account is required.
An internet-connected device (computer or mobile) with high-speed access is required. Compatible with most popular web browsers. JavaScript and cookies must be enabled.
Requirements for Successful Completion
- Submit the MicroQI initiation form with a stated aim, a selected metric, a baseline value, and a target date.
- Confirm at the midpoint that the change is under test.
- Submit the endpoint report with the post-intervention measure and a brief reflection.
- Complete the activity evaluation.
ACOOG staff verify completion, award credit, and return a formal project record for OCC Component 4 documentation.
